Magic Kingdom Files Updated Villains Land Permit After Creative Reset
Last month, Disney filed wastewater management plans tied to Project SNK-TL, giving us our first look at proposed layouts for Magic Kingdom’s Piston Peak and a villains-themed land. Yesterday, an updated project plan was filed.
Aside from Piston Peak’s main attraction building, nearly every structure has been reworked. Several footprints have grown, most noticeably in the Villains section of the map. What does it mean? Officially, nothing. These aren’t blueprints. They’re wastewater permits. But larger buildings could mean increased capacity and more show space.
The timing of the updated filing lines up with reporting from TheWrap’s Drew Taylor, who confirmed that Imagineers were told to make the Villains land bigger and bolder. They’ve also been told to broaden its appeal with more family-friendly attractions. Go big, but make sure grandparents and their grandkids can ride it. More on that in a bit. First, let’s look at the map from the original filing from January:

And now the latest:

The biggest update is the size and shape of what we believe to be the Villains’ E-ticket attraction on the right side of the map. The building’s original footprint measured roughly 80,000 square feet. The new filing bumps that up by more than 10,000 square feet. By comparison, Rise of the Resistance is 92,000 square feet.

Per Taylor, that show building will house a large-scale indoor boat dark ride themed to Sleeping Beauty’s Maleficent. The attraction is rumored to rival Rise of the Resistance and Radiator Springs Racers in both scale and technical ambition. There’s also talk that it could borrow technology from Shanghai’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Battle for the Sunken Treasure.

Maleficent’s previously rumored thrill coaster is off the table. But the land is still expected to get a coaster, just not one with VelociCoaster-level thrills. Think more Slinky Dog Dash than flying out of your seat on a tophat. Ursula is rumored to anchor a spinning attraction. I’d rather have Chernabog lording over that ride, but again, we gotta think of the children.
So yes, we’re reporting on wastewater permits, and not just because we love permits. When a building grows by 10,000+ square feet right after we learn about a reimagined E-ticket? That’s a clue.
