Cinderella Castle Paint Update: Classic Colors Quickly Returning
Cinderella Castle is transforming back to its roots faster than I expected. Crews began painting the Magic Kingdom icon in earnest just a few weeks ago, and the progress is striking. Rose pinks and gold accents are steadily giving way to softer, more muted grays.
While I haven’t been able to document the changes in person, Tyler graciously shared his beautiful castle photos with us.

So far, most of the work has focused on the castle’s sides and rear, although two freshly repainted turrets are clearly visible while walking down Main Street, U.S.A. The moat has been largely drained, with a pump and a makeshift dam set up to manage the water. Magic Kingdom’s birds still seem to be enjoying themselves.

That rose gold shimmer is fading fast
For now, those perfect vacation photos haven’t been impacted too much. But soon, a two-toned castle will dominate Memory Maker images. Personally, I’d love to grab one, but at the current pace, Cinderella may be fully redressed before our next vacation.
What’s most impressive is how quickly this is happening with so little daytime disruption. Guests haven’t seen the usual fleet of boom lifts taking over the hub during peak hours. Aside from the temporary two-toned look, a modified Let the Magic Begin, and the loss of one daily Mickey’s Magical Friendship Faire performance, guest impact has been minimal. The whole operation feels stealthy, especially for a project of this scale.
Dream Lights, please
In fact, this repaint project is making a case for the return of Cinderella Castle’s Dream Lights. Those holiday icicles always required weeks of boom lifts parked in the hub for installation and removal. Watching this repaint move at warp speed with minimal daytime equipment makes you wonder if Disney could do something similar for that holiday offering.

Imagineers first announced the Cinderella Castle refresh last summer, and the response was overwhelmingly positive. The makeover – honoring the 70th anniversary of the film – was a bit of a lightning rod for fans of the original look. We appreciated the brighter castle while it lasted, but there’s just something about these classic vibes.

And as Aahs n Oohs just told me, the simpler color palette could make those nighttime castle projections pop even more.

We’re noticing one subtle difference between the concept art and what’s appearing in Tyler’s photos. Two turret roofs have been painted a noticeably darker blue than what’s shown in the rendering. Florida’s sun is relentless, and lighter shades tend to wash out quickly. Starting with a deeper blue may help preserve those roofs, even after years of intense UV exposure. The softer grays should age better than the vibrant rose gold palette did.

At the current pace, Cinderella Castle’s return to its classic look could be complete sooner than many expected. The 70th anniversary colors are disappearing quickly, all with minimal disruption in the hub. Selfishly, I wouldn’t mind this project dragging on a bit longer so I can snap some photos of my own.
