Diservations Is Having a Great Week

Our little site is having a great week, and it’s all thanks to our readers and friends. Saturday afternoon, Nate texted a screengrab from Google Maps. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. The image showed a very specific Disney resort bus schedule. And it was accurate. How did I know? Nate and his family were riding the bus as it traveled through Saratoga Springs. I posted the image to X and Threads before searching for more info about the new feature. Nobody was talking about it.

“Oh, crap. Maybe I shouldn’t have shared that so soon.”

I paused the Texas / Michigan game and asked Nate for more details before starting my article. Luckily, I had a generic Disney bus photo ready to go, but I needed more Google screen grabs. I edited those in Photoshop and uploaded them to the server. I also did a screen recording that I posted to X so I could embed it in the article. After scanning my story for grammatical errors (I didn’t want to upset that guy who called me out for misspelling “learned” in an X post that one time), I hit publish.

I re-checked the big Disney sites. Still nothing. Was this happening? Had I scooped the behemoths? Yes! And it was all thanks to friends who love going to Disney as much as we do.

Saturday’s traffic broke records. Sunday’s was even better. Thousands of people were reading the article. Many stuck around and used our reservation date calculator. They liked Danielle’s tour reviews and Mariann’s accessibility articles. How could they not?

For over a year, I’ve shared news stories, ride and food reviews, and photo galleries. But this is the first time a Diservations article has gone viral. It feels good.

On Monday, two sites picked up the story. Neither gave me a nod or a backlink. Maybe they weren’t on X on Saturday or Sunday. I like taking off weekends sometimes. But I think they saw our post. I’m not upset. My brother, who runs a popular bass player website, told me it means I’ve arrived. I’m not sure about that, but I will if Diservations keeps growing. I can only do that if I surround myself with people like Mariann, Danielle, and Nate. Positive, awesome people who dig Disney, Universal, and all that other fun stuff.
