Diamond Horseshoe Reservations Get an Evening Launch

Walt Disney World table-service dining reservations open early. And if you don’t live on the East Coast, it feels like they drop in the middle of the night. But Disney is throwing everyone a bone for the upcoming pop-up menu at The Diamond Horseshoe. Guests can begin booking the Magic Kingdom restaurant on September 29 at 8 PM ET.

The later start time has benefits beyond allowing everyone to sleep in.

New Disney dining experiences always attract heavy demand from influencers and regular park fans. When all of those guests descend on Disney’s reservation system at once, the resulting virtual crowd can slow Disney’s web servers to a crawl.

Complete Diamond Horseshoe Pop-Up Menu Revealed Ahead of October 4 Debut

That happened when Disney opened reservations for The Beak and Barrel last summer. The problem wasn’t limited to guests hoping to enjoy Pirate grub. Anyone trying to make regular dining reservations was caught in the same mess. Faced with that stress, many started calling instead. Hold times reached two hours.

Disney had to reset, informing guests that they would open up Beak and Barrel reservations a few days later. Thankfully, they did it in the evening so as not to interfere with regular restaurant bookings.

Even better, they did it with a virtual queue. Instead of everyone hitting Disney’s booking tools at the same time, they were let in slowly. The servers held. Most people got reservations. And if they didn’t, it was due to high demand, not technical issues.

Disney hasn’t announced a virtual queue for The Diamond Horseshoe reservations. However, the 8 PM start gives it the option to use the same approach without disrupting regular dining bookings earlier in the day.
