Stegosaurus Installed at Jurassic World Paddock Play in Universal Kids Resort
Last week, several playground structures showed up in Universal Kids Resort’s new staging yard, including a Caterbus, Shrek towers, and a stegosaurus. That dino didn’t stay there long. Crews immediately installed it inside the park’s Jurassic World Adventure Camp, specifically in the Paddock Play area.

Manufactured by KOMPAN, the stegosaurus is a remarkable playground structure. It’s not a photo-realistic dinosaur sculpture. Instead, its outer shell is formed by a series of multi-colored panels that give the creature a playful, stylized look.

Nets hang from the dinosaur’s neck, giving younger kids a safe place to try net climbing while parents keep a close eye on the action. Footholds let more adventurous climbers scale the beast.
Inside, kids will find two levels of nets and a slide, which replaces the dinosaur’s tail. Get ready for jokes. Its placement won’t be lost on kids.

We couldn’t find the stegosaurus in KOMPAN’s catalog, but we did find something equally fun. The Dinosaur, a T-rex play structure, features a slide hidden inside its tail. Kids enter through the dinosaur’s mouth and then “conquer the challenging path over membranes and through nets and hoops.” We expect Universal’s stegosaurus to offer similar climbing features, although kids will access it from the side rather than the mouth.
KOMPAN’s product descriptions also emphasize how these playground structures support childhood development. According to the company, the playsets help train muscles and motor skills while building balance, strength, and coordination. In my day, we just called that playing.

The catalog also shows dinosaur eggs that create a lower-impact play area for smaller kids. We don’t yet know if Universal’s Paddock Play will include similar elements, but a space designed specifically for younger, preschool-aged guests would be a welcome addition.

In addition to the stegosaurus, Universal’s animated flythrough of Adventure Camp shows other decorative pieces in the area, including a two-dimensional dinosaur and the franchise’s iconic Jurassic Park-style gate, complete with another 2D T-rex. We may have already spotted steelwork for those elements in the park last week.

Adventure Camp is shaping up to be more than just another playground. With an oversized dinosaur, Paddock Play looks like it will give younger guests their own Jurassic adventure, all without boarding a coaster.
