Small Section of Gertie Falls Into Echo Lake at Hollywood Studios

Last month, a small crack showed up on Gertie at Hollywood Studios. She received a little cosmetic touch-up a few days later. Unfortunately, the fiberglass patch didn’t take. Today, a small portion of the green dinosaur’s backside has fallen into the water.

Before anyone sounds the alarms (too late for that), this is not an extinction-level event. Gertie is still upright. She’s still scooping ice cream. Her tail is completely intact, a dozen feet away. But a more thorough repair is likely on deck. Echo Lake has already been partially drained, perhaps to allow that to happen sooner than later.

Derek Bell captured photos of the ailing dinosaur after saying goodbye to Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith this afternoon. So yeah, kind of a sad day in Hollywood Studios.
