Shrek and Puss in Boots Mural Completes Universal Kids Resort Hotel Exterior
Crews removed scaffolding from the fourth and final mural on the Universal Kids Resort Hotel this week, revealing Shrek, Donkey, and Puss in Boots. It’s a big milestone. For all intents and purposes, the hotel’s exterior is now complete.

Crews wrapped the building’s color-blocked paint scheme last fall. Since then, they’ve added projected window surrounds (the raised frames that give the facade a little extra depth) and installed the “UNIVERSAL” sign.

All the while, crews were adding four IP-packed murals to the hotel’s wings. SpongeBob went up first, followed by Gabby’s Dollhouse and the Trolls. Shrek’s crew closed things out.
His canvas was initially intended for the Minions, but they lost out when Universal Creative opted to add Gabby and her cats to the north side of the hotel. That decision set off a bit of musical chairs, leaving Gru’s henchmen out in the cold.
Shrek’s artwork also doesn’t entirely match Universal Creative’s original concept. Donkey looks the same, but Shrek and Puss in Boots have swapped positions. Perrito, the comic relief therapy dog from Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, was also removed. He shouldn’t be too broken up about it. Fiona is also absent.

With the hotel now effectively complete – at least on the outside – Universal Kids Resort is running out of major construction milestones. Between ongoing ride testing, Team Member training, and final site cleanup, all signs point to this park opening very soon. Now, if Universal would just tell us when.
