Universal Kids Resort Hotel Adds Gabby’s Dollhouse Mural, Not Trolls

A new mural is going up at Universal Kids Resort Hotel, and like the SpongeBob artwork recently added to the building’s southeast corner, it doesn’t match Universal’s original concept art. The canvas was supposed to feature Trolls, but instead, Gabby’s Dollhouse characters have claimed the spot.

Universal technically revealed Gabby’s Dollhouse’s mural a while ago. They just did it very, very quietly. Remember the video where some lucky kids were shown the resort model? The miniature hotel already has the same artwork that’s now being added to the real thing. Aahs n Oohs spotted it at the 1:12 and 2:00 marks. Well played, Universal.

The hotel features four large exterior “canvases,” each set to receive a pop-art-style mural inspired by lands inside the park. Crews began painting the second of those yesterday. Walking up, I expected big hair and neon colors. Instead, I spotted Gabby and unmistakable cat eyes.

It’s tricky to pin down every character joining Gabby, but I’m fairly confident Kitty Fairy is featured in the mural’s top right corner. Beneath her, things get a little fuzzier. I think it’s Mercat on the right and Pandy Paws on the left.

Cakey Cat would make a lot of sense given his role in the Isle of Curiosity as the owner of Cakey’s Cupcakes, but none of the silhouettes feel like him. Bear in mind, I’m not a Gabby’s Dollhouse expert. Or even a novice. I should probably run these photos by my neighbor’s kids.

With seven lands and only four mural locations, some IPs were always going to miss out. Gabby’s rising popularity looks to have forced a late swap, with Trolls losing its spot in the process. But the musical chairs don’t end there.

Originally, the two murals on the front of the hotel were to spotlight the Minions along with Shrek, Donkey, and Puss in Boots. But Aahs noticed yet another change in the video we referenced earlier. The Trolls have been relocated to the northwest wing, Shrek’s original spot, forcing the ogre to take over the Minions’ canvas.

For now, it looks like Gru’s henchmen will join Jurassic World Adventure Camp as the only lands without representation on the hotel’s exterior.
