Meet the Updated Country Bear Musical Jamboree Characters

Before we talk about bears and costumes, I have a confession. I only ever watched the Country Bear Jamboree once, and I didn’t get it. Maybe it’s because I was sitting off to the side and couldn’t hear the lyrics very well. Whatever the case, I don’t have a lot to offer when it comes to reviewing the changes coming to the Country Bear Musical Jamboree characters later this month. But I promise to go see the show in November, even if I’m not a country music fan. Alright, enough negativity.

The bears are preparing a knee-slappin’ and toe-tappin’ kind of show with reinterpreted Disney tunes from bluegrass to Americana, rockabilly and more! As we shared in the latest episode of “We Call It Imagineering,” these twangy tracks will even include “Try Everything” and “A Whole New World” from the Walt Disney Animation Studios films “Zootopia” and “Aladdin.”

Yep, Disney IP is coming to the Country Bears! This is a big departure from the previous show, which was filled with questionable lyrics and dated humor. But the reimagined attraction should be more accessible to families while staying true to its roots. Let’s learn about the updated Country Bear Musical Jamboree characters!

Henry

Henry is the grandson of Ursus H. Bear, the founder of Grizzly Hall. He serves as the “master of bear-emonies.” Dad jokes, am I right? Henry also helped develop the updated show and co-wrote the Five Bear Rugs’ opening song.

Henry sports a bolo tie, a white jacket, and a baby blue shirt. He doesn’t own pants, apparently.

The Five Bear Rugs (Zeke, Zeb, Ted, Fred, and Tennessee) are Grizzly Hall’s house band. They’re joined onstage by Zeb’s son, Oscar, who is holding a Big Al plush. Disney has to sell that plush in the Magic Kingdom, right?

This group wears a variety of clothes (some wear none at all), but they all sport a blue handkerchief.

Trixie

Trixie is one of the Country Bears’ “most veteran performers.” She usually performs with Bunny, Bubbles, and Beulah. You won’t be able to miss Trixie in her fuchsia and sequined outfit.

We covered the triplets’ updated costumes in May. Bunny, Bubbles, and Beulah (formally known as The Sun Bonnets) traded in those bonnets for cowgirl hats.

Teddi Barra

Teddi Barra is the “Jewel of the Dakotas.” She was discovered in an ice cream parlor and has been on a meteoric rise ever since. Teddi enjoys wearing a baby blue feather boa and a pink cowgirl hat.

Wendell

Wendell always wanted to be a professional athlete but decided to join the Country Bears when asked by Henry. He’s got a thing for Teddi. Wendell looks sharp in his purple bandana and vest.

Ernest the Dude

Ernest the Dude is a sharp-dressed bear. He travels with 17 trunks filled with 30 coats, 40 slacks, 60 shirts, 20 hats, and a pair and a half of underwear. He wears a striped colorful vest and a blue bowtie while performing in Grizzly Hall.

Terrence used to be a famous actor, but then he fell from the balcony during a production of “Romeo and Juliet.” Now he plays guitar and dances while wearing a patterned green vest.

Romeo McGrowl

As you can probably tell from his outfit, Romeo (formerly Liver Lips) McGrowl is the Country Bears’ rockabilly star. His name was changed because “Liver Lips” is highly derogatory.

Gomer

The band’s piano player used to be a classical musician. Now he plays both kinds of music… country and western. His outfit is minimal. Gomer wears a shirt collar and a striped tie.

Big Al

Finally, Big Al is the group’s guitar player. He’s been around a while. He was the “resident bard and balladeer in the swamp before Disney World was built.” Big Al’s outfit is similar to what he’s always worn, although the colors have changed a bit.

Fans can see these new duds and hear all new songs when the Country Bear Musical Jamboree opens on July 17 at Magic Kingdom.
