Jurassic World Cretaceous Coaster Ride Vehicles Arrive at Universal Kids Resort

Jurassic World: Cretaceous Coaster cars have once again shown up in the Universal Kids Resort staging lot. They made a brief appearance last September, but I was obliviously enjoying Walt Disney World and Epic Universe instead of doing my job. Once I returned, they were gone. It was the only reveal I missed. It still hurts.

The pain subsided when I witnessed crews offloading the Mack Rides “ranger vehicles” from a trailer earlier this week. While still fully wrapped, an iconic Jurassic World logo was visible through the plastic of the rear car.

Update (February 15, 2025):  We returned to Universal Kids today and were rewarded with some partially unwrapped Cretaceous cars, including the train’s lead Jeep. You’ll find those at the end of the article.

No matter how much some of us would like it, this coaster is nothing like its cousin, Island of Adventure’s Jurassic World VelociCoaster. Here’s how Universal describes the action of the much more kid-friendly ride:

Baby Bumpy, the curious Ankylosaurus, has gone missing—and we need your help finding her. Board a Jurassic World ranger vehicle and join the search as you roar through the land on this exciting roller coaster ride. Kids and their grown-ups will zoom through twists, turns, peaks, and valleys while keeping an eye out for an adorable little dinosaur.

The Cretaceous Coaster went vertical last summer, a beautiful addition to the Universal Kids’ growing skyline. When it opens, riders will be treated to great park views, especially the Minions’ Bello Bay Cruise water raft ride.

The larger of the park’s two coasters, guests must be 39″ tall to ride and will need to be accompanied by an older companion until they’re 48″ tall.

Across the park, Rhonda’s TrollsFest Express is a slightly tamer option. Its riders only need to be 36″ tall. Each is a solid choice for young guests, but Rhonda’s might be the safer bet when introducing kids to thrill rides. Take a look at our height requirements guide for more info.

Remember September, when they showed up and then ghosted us? Not this time. The Cretaceous Coaster’s ranger vehicles are here for good. They’ll soon make the short trip from the staging lot to their permanent home inside Jurassic World Adventure Camp. After that comes installation. Then testing. And eventually, I’ll be going over the first drop, pretending it’s VelociCoaster’s beautiful top hat.
