Cretaceous Coaster Construction Goes Vertical at Universal Kids Resort
Construction on the Jurassic World: Cretaceous Coaster has gone vertical at Universal Kids Resort. Its dark gray supports are now visible from several vantage points around the park.
Designed by Mack Rides, this YoungSTAR coaster is the centerpiece of the park’s Jurassic World land. The manufacturer says it’s tailor-made for preschool-aged guests:
“Our 1-meter and more coaster will probably be the first coaster experience for your 4-year-old guests. The single lap bars and [ergonomically] shaped seats offer the most comfortable way for your little guests to ride a rollercoaster.”
I wonder how comfortable it is for tall guys.

Construction is moving quickly. During our Sunday visit, only the blue track was in place. Today, we found several gray track supports have been installed. At this rate, the coaster could be completed in a week or two.

In the staging lot, crews recently installed brakes and drive wheels on two sections of Cretaceous Coaster track. These components, and many others, should move into the park in the coming days.

I visited the park yesterday evening to see if any more progress had been made. Lucky for me, several more coaster supports had gone in. I was also able to see the sunset over Universal Kids. So win-win.

Crews installed more Cretaceous Coaster supports and track today. The newest supports are taller than I expected. I do believe this “kiddie” coaster is going to be fun for all ages.

Crews installed several tall supports and the lift hill track today. A bird can be seen perched on one of those supports in several of these photos.

The Cretaceous Coaster’s lift hill crest was installed Friday, and it’s already changing the park’s skyline. As the photos show, the ride is visible from nearly every corner of the park. And its proximity to the Minions water ride will bring a lot of energy to that area.

The Creteceous Coaster track installation continues this week, although there are still several pieces in the staging yard. With the heat getting turned to 11, I’ve moved my visits to later in the evening. And it’s paying off with some beautiful sunset pics. I threw in a few of those, as well.

July 1 update
Universal Kids’ Cretaceous Coaster hit a major milestone today with the installation of its final track pieces. As of yesterday, two segments were still sitting in the staging lot. By this evening, both had been added to the Mack Rides YoungSTAR Coaster.
We’ve snapped a bunch of photos since our last update. Scroll through to the end for a look at the completed coaster!

The staging yard has 11 air gates for the 22 seats on each Cretaceous Coaster train. That matches the capacity of “Flight of the Hippogriff” at Universal Studios Beijing, also a Mack Rides YoungSTAR.

These next photos show the maintenance bay ride vehicle transport wheels, both in the staging yard and later installed in the bay itself.

Finally, here is the completed Jurassic World: Cretaceous Coaster.
