Disney Cast Member Fractured Two Vertebrae During Indiana Jones Stunt Show Incident
Robert Herrick, the Cast Member who stopped a 400-pound boulder prop from flying into the audience during a performance of Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular, has revealed the extent of his injuries. In an exclusive interview with WFTV Channel 9, Herrick said he suffered two fractured vertebrae.
The incident occurred on December 30, when the attraction’s iconic boulder became dislodged from its track and launched toward the stands. Yes, the boulder is rubber. Yes, it bounces. But it also weighs 400 pounds. And Herrick stepped in front of it without a second thought.
“I was probably out of my seat before it went over the thing, without any thought of what was going to happen. I can’t tell you that I was just thinking of anything other than it cannot make the audience.”
Unaware of how seriously he was hurt, Herrick said his first instinct was to get offstage as quickly as possible so children wouldn’t see him bleeding.
Herrick, who has worked as a stuntman and actor at the attraction for over 30 years, is eager to get back to his Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular gig. “I miss my epic family, and I miss the audience,” he said. He’ll have to wait until he heals before entertaining guests. He’ll be in a neck brace for the next eight weeks.

Herrick’s quick thinking likely prevented a far more serious outcome. His actions are a reminder that Disney Cast Members are real people who sometimes have to put themselves in harm’s way to keep guests safe.
