Animal Kingdom’s Baby Boom Continues with Malayan Great Argus Pheasant Chicks

Much to everyone’s delight, Animal Kingdom keeps welcoming baby animals. Bakso is breaking hearts and wait-time records. Corra is a dynamo. And Mae and Kevin recently welcomed the cutest baby otters I’ve ever seen. Now we can add Malayan great argus pheasant chicks to the expanding babies list.

According to Disney’s Animals, Science and Environment, the chicks are “growing quick[ly] as they follow mom around in the aviary on Maharajah Jungle Trek.” Unlike Bakso, these babies won’t need mama’s care for long. They’re independent-minded birds.

I read up on great argus pheasants. Males are easily distinguishable from females. The former have excessively long tail feathers that give them a “freight-train-like” appearance. The females are more warmly colored but lack the long plumes. They both enjoy eating fruits, ants, slugs, snails, and insects.
