Topolino’s Terrace Character Breakfast: So Worth It

Topolino’s Terrace Character Breakfast: So Worth It

Topolino’s Terrace Character Breakfast à la Art with Mickey and Friends is phenomenal. Full stop. Book a table. That’s the whole review. But please keep reading.

Topolino’s Terrace serves up two distinctly different, yet equally delicious, menus. Dinner reservations are always readily available, but the same can’t be said for breakfast. In fact, morning reservations are some of the toughest to come by in all of Walt Disney World. I’m sure the characters being there for breakfast has something to do with it, but the food plays a major role, too.

Our first Topolino’s experience was during the socially-distanced post-COVID era. That dinner was easily one of the best we’ve ever had in Florida. Granted, we hadn’t eaten out much in the previous year, so maybe we were starved for steaks and pasta made by strangers. But I’ve come to realize that wasn’t the case. Topolino’s delivers. Every time.

Even with that experience, I still wasn’t interested in Topolino’s Character Breakfast à la Art. We have an adult son, so character dining hasn’t been a draw in years. Neither is dropping $50+ on eggs and pastries. But we have friends who insisted we go. And insisted. For months, I felt like I was living in a Seinfeld episode: “You gotta see the baby!” I didn’t want to see the baby, but that baby turned out to be gorgeous.

Alright, enough preamble. Let’s get to the review.

The location

Topolino's Terrace entrance

Topolino’s Terrace, on the 10th floor of Disney’s Riviera Resort, is easily accessible via the Skyliner. For breakfast reservations, we recommend taking a resort bus to Hollywood Studios and hopping the Skyliner to the Riviera. Or if you value sleep, save time and order an Uber. Once you arrive, Riviera’s great signage will direct you to the correct elevator, which is on the east side of the hotel.

Upon entering, you’ll see cases and refrigerators displaying the restaurant’s ingredients, freshly-made pastas, and bottles of Dom Pérignon.

Look left when entering the dining room to catch a glimpse of the kitchen.

The dining room’s floor-to-ceiling windows offer beautiful views of Barefoot Bay and the surrounding resort hotels. Some diners can catch glimpses of EPCOT and Hollywood Studios’ landmarks. If that’s not your table, step out on the terrace after your meal to enjoy those views.

One of my favorite aspects of the dining room is the space given to each party. Tables are spread out to allow Mickey, Minnie, Donald, and Daisy to move easily from one group to the next. The extra space is a rarity in Walt Disney World, yet another huge plus for Topolino’s.

The decor is elegant but understated. In fact, you might not notice much about the room during the day. But nighttime dining is a different story. The restaurant’s glass chandeliers and recessed lighting, combined with a few thousand points of light from outside, create a vibe. It’s a much more adult feel during the dinner seating. Kids are welcome, but they’ll have more fun at breakfast.

The food

POG juice at Topolino's Terrace

The Topolino’s pre-fixe breakfast menu comes with an entree along with coffee, tea, milk, juice, croissants, and muffins. Forget the coffee and tea. Get the POG (Passion fruit, Orange, and Guava) juice. I don’t know if it’s freshly squeezed (can you even squeeze passion fruit?), but it’s spectacular. Ask for to-go cups, too. Sure, you’ll fall into a sugar coma at some point, but you have to take advantage of “complimentary” whenever you can.

Pastry-filled paint bucket at Topolino's Terrace

The paint bucket filled with pastries was a hit with everyone at our table. The croissants and assortment of muffins were simple yet tasty. The breakfast appetizer was served with honey butter, a house-made jam, and a chocolate-hazelnut spread. The Nutella won, but the others were contenders.

Nine entrees are available, but not all are created equal. I’m sure they’re all delicious, but if you’re dropping $54 on breakfast, don’t opt for Two Eggs-Any Style. Remember, you’re already paying a premium for the character experience. Order the best of the menu to make that price tag worth it.

For me, that means Topolino’s Wood-fired Steak and Eggs, a phenomenal plate of food. A tender butcher’s steak is served with polenta, pomodoraccio tomatoes, roasted potatoes, wild mushroom conserva, and two eggs, any style. Quite honestly, it’s one of my favorite steaks at Walt Disney World. Jiko’s is still first, but Toplino’s is in the conversation.

Equally delicious was the Eggs Benedict Florentine, served with hollandaise, an English muffin, and creamed spinach. My son, a steak lover, refuses to order anything else.

Sour Cream Waffle from Topolino's Terrace

On our second visit, our server recommended the Sour Cream Waffle. I informed him of my ordering-for-value philosophy and asked for the steak. Five minutes later, that awesome Cast Member delivered a waffle to the table. Served with roasted apples, chantilly, and an orange-maple syrup, it had me guessing my steak-only mindset.

We didn’t have anyone under the age of 10 at our table, but the kids at nearby tables looked thrilled with their Mickey-shaped Waffle Dippers. Scrambled eggs and fruit and yogurt are also on the menu. A children’s meal will set you back $35.

Topolino’s Terrace has a full assortment of allergy-friendly items for adults and children. Specialty coffees, beverages, and cocktails (alcoholic and zero-proof) are available for purchase. We stuck with the POG juice and had zero regrets.

Character interactions

Topolino’s characters include Mickey Mouse dressed as a painter, Minnie Mouse (a poet), Donald Duck (a sculptor), and Daisy Duck (a dancer). Their outfits are unique to the restaurant, yet another reason to book. Each party will have one-on-one time with the four, who are happy to sign autographs and pose for pictures. They also perform as a group at regular intervals.

Booking strategies

As I’ve said, getting a breakfast reservation for Topolino’s is extremely difficult, even at 60 days. Guests staying at a Disney Resorts Collection hotel will have the best chance, thanks to the 60-day-plus-10 rule. Simply put, those hotel guests can book restaurants for the length of their stay (for up to 10 nights) once their booking window opens.

When your booking day arrives, navigate to Topolino’s Terrace in the MDE app or in your browser. Select every day of your vacation in the calendar tool. You’ll most likely see availability for most or all of those days, but don’t be fooled. Remember, dinner reservations rarely sell out. Select a date toward the end of your vacation. The further out you look, the better your chances.

If you’re unsuccessful, you can try using Thrill Data’s ADR alert tool. If that doesn’t pan out, you might have better luck closer to your vacation once people start canceling reservations.

Conclusion

Topolino’s Terrace Character Breakfast à la Art with Mickey and Friends is a fantastic dining experience, especially for families with younger children. Or those with adult children. Or no children. Book a table if you love delicious food, beautiful views, and exceptional service.

We’re visiting Disney World next week. 60+ days ago, I booked our third Topolino’s Terrace breakfast. Since then, DVC invited us to a preview screening of Zootopia 2. I’m all for new experiences, so we canceled Disney World’s best character meal in favor of Judy Hopps, free Coke, and popcorn. I’m sure I’ll regret it.
