Indiana Jones Maya Temple Takes Shape at Animal Kingdom
Bioreconstruct recently flew over Tropical Americas at Animal Kingdom and spotted major progress in the new land. Most notably, crews have begun assembling the massive Maya temple outside the show building for Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent.
The pieces aren’t entirely new to fans. Disney showed footage of them during the D23 Experiences Showcase, and Bioreconstruct photographed them in Animal Kingdom’s backstage area in mid-August. Now, they’re being assembled on-site.
Building the facade in sections allows crews to sculpt and paint the pieces at ground level while steelwork continues at the show building.
The vibrant pieces are already creating a striking facade for Indy’s giant snake attraction. Their level of detail feels appropriate for Animal Kingdom, a park that rewards anyone willing to slow down and look around.
Joe Rohde has encouraged guests not to rush straight into the dark ride when the attraction opens. Based on what Bioreconstruct has spotted, I’m planning to linger in that queue. Feel free to go around if you see a big dorky hat and a 200mm lens trained on some snake sculptures.
