Tom Morrow 2.0 Returns to Host Imagineer That! on YouTube
Tom Morrow 2.0 is back! The Mini-Matronic, who helped educate Disney Channel viewers in the early 2000s, is hosting Imagineer That! on YouTube. In his debut episode, he chats with Bruce Vaughan, President and Chief Creative Officer of Walt Disney Imagineering. Tom is surprised to learn he’s been offline since 2007. No matter, he’s excited to get back to Innoventions…
After the shock wears off, Tom quickly jumps into the purpose of the show: answering a question about Imagineering.
Tom enlists Jonathan Friday, a Senior Creative Director, to help answer the following: “How do Imagineers think up the new rides?” Friday’s answer might trigger some Disney fans. He mentions “blue sky,” the brainstorming stage where creatives are unrestrained by practical restraints. As he explains the process, we’re given a glimpse behind the scenes of upcoming projects, including Tropical Americas, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin, and Piston Peak.
Friday goes on to cover the steps that come after blue sky: concept, feasibility, design, and production. But Tom doesn’t let him off the hook. He really leans into the whole blue sky thing:
“Does every ride make it out of blue sky, or are their clouds full of abandoned ideas floating around up there?”

Friday explains that while not everything makes it into production, “we like to think that no good idea ever goes away. They always find a way to come back.” Tom: “Like Imagineer That!?”
Tom is an excellent host. The writing is fun. And the B-roll footage of Imagineers working behind the scenes is what Disney fans crave. The next episode of Imagineer That! debuts on September 15.
