Scarecrow Stilt Walkers Join Halloween at Universal Kids Resort

Scarecrow stilt walkers have joined the Halloween lineup at Universal Kids Resort, where record crowds have been filling the park since Friday. The duo fits right into the spooky – but definitely not scary – Halloween vibes in the Isle of Curiosity.

The stilt walkers appeared in Gabby’s land for the first time last night, though we’d previously heard they were scheduled to debut Tuesday. Fortunately, they were greeting guests when I entered the park this morning. And they were attracting a crowd. Kids were loving these towering characters, not at all intimidated by their size.

Their costumes are excellent, with colorful patches, sunflowers, and straw spilling out from everywhere. One scarecrow wears an orange-and-gold striped shirt under a blue vest. The other sports a blue-and-tan checked tunic and a blue apron. Both wear long blue pants covered in patches to conceal their stilts.

Painted yellow noses, rosy cheeks, and stitched smiles complete the look.

As great as the outfits are, the hats are the stars. Their enormous, floppy brims are lined with fabrics that match the costumes – blue-and-gold checks on one, the apron’s plaid trim on the other. But the details on top are where these outfits make hay. Birds have made nests from berries and leaves.

So these scarecrows aren’t scaring birds or kids. Which is a good thing for a kids’ theme park.

These costumes, like the Halloween-themed outfits worn by the “Trick for Treat” Team Members, were created in-house in Frisco.

In addition to roaming the Isle of Curiosity, the scarecrows also take part in the Gabby’s Dollhouse Halloween Costume Parade.

There’s no posted schedule for the scarecrow stilt walkers. I saw them twice today, but both appearances were brief. You might want to linger in Isle of Curiosity until they show up. I recommend parking yourself near Gordo’s “Trick for Treat” game. He gives out Hershey’s Miniatures.

Halloween at Universal Kids Resort runs through November 1.
