Marvel Characters Coming to Disney Destiny
Spider-Man is one of several Marvel heroes coming to the Disney Destiny. Marvel’s most popular character is featured prominently on the stern of Disney’s heroes and villains-themed ship. He and his Spider-Bots are attempting to decorate the ship’s filigree with spider webs. Honestly, I never expected a Marvel character to get that kind of billing, but I’m all in on the choice. The Imagineers nailed it.
Spider-Man isn’t the only Marvel character setting sail. Black Panther, Doctor Strange, Iron Man, and others will be featured throughout the ship. It won’t take guests long to spot T’Challa, who is immortalized in the Grand Hall.
Grand Hall
“The striking Grand Hall will be inspired by the rich lore, distinctive iconography and vibrant palette of Marvel Studios’ Black Panther films. This space will be the first thing you see as you step aboard the Disney Destiny, welcoming you to a world of epic dualities: heroes and villains, and adventure and relaxation.”
Disney Parks Blog
Imagineers consulted with the costume team from Black Panther to design the entry space. The pillars are inspired by Wakanda’s banded armor and stacked jewelry. A Vibranium-inspired light fixture “will generate show-stopping effects that fill the room with life and color.”
That sounds very cool.
The Sanctum
Doctor Strange’s Destiny home is The Sanctum, a lounge inspired by the “powerful sorcerers and mystical artifacts” from his movies. Guests can expect entertainment; cocktails, spirits, and coffees; and a circular mirror behind the bar reminiscent of the original Sanctum’s iconic window.
Tower Suite
It’s appropriate that the Destiny’s Tower Suite is an homage to Iron Man. You need Tony Stark-type money to afford those digs! According to the Disney Parks Blog, the space will have “armor-like materials and mechanical elements” offset by softer finishes. The Tower Suite is nearly 2,000 square feet and includes a living room, sleeping accommodations for eight guests, a full kitchen, and a private elevator. I’ll have to take their word for it! Also, I’d never use that kitchen.
Saga
Saga is adjacent to the Grand Hall on decks four and five. Disney didn’t share photos, but they describe the space as “a central hub for daytime family activities and adult-exclusive evening entertainment.” Designed to resemble the architecture of Wakanda, Saga will host interactive shows and events. Saga is the Destiny’s version of the Wish’s Luna.
Also like the Disney Wish, the Destiny will include a Worlds of Marvel restaurant. This version will feature a Rocket and Groot storyline.
“Groot will take over the proceedings and bring the festivities to the next level like only he can, organizing the ultimate surprise party for his friend Rocket — just in time for your dessert!”
The Oceaneer Club will also have a Wish mainstay, the Marvel Super Hero Academy. Kids aged 3 to 10 “will become the heroes of their own epic Disney adventures at Marvel Super Hero Academy, a high-tech Avengers headquarters.” I can’t imagine experiencing that as a kid. I was happy with Leave It to Beaver reruns on a black-and-white TV.
The Disney Destiny will appeal to plenty of people who might not otherwise go on a cruise. Disney is making great choices with this ship.
Castaway Club members can book a Destiny cruise starting September 6, 2024. All others can make reservations on September 12, 2024.
