Imagineering Files Another DINOSAUR Permit as Indiana Jones Transformation Looms

Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI) has filed a construction permit for 501 Restaurantosaurus Road, home of Animal Kingdom’s DINOSAUR. This is the second permit filed for the property this month. WDI filed a notice of commencement on August 6 to allow Mecca Productions, Inc. to install set elements. The latest permit lists longtime Disney collaborator Balfour Beatty as the contractor. Their work will include general construction, building infrastructure, and systems enhancements.

After the first permit was filed, we speculated whether DINOSAUR would close sooner than we expected. Today’s news isn’t changing our minds. Yes, this work could be for routine maintenance, ensuring the ride functions beautifully until it’s shut down. But I don’t think that’s the case. Fans of DINOSAUR might not want to wait too long to visit Animal Kingdom.

No matter the timeline, DINOSAUR is set for a full reimagining as an Indiana Jones attraction. The Dino Institute will give way to a Mayan temple, where Indy will lead guests on a quest to track down a “mythical creature.” The attraction will join Coco and Encanto-inspired areas as part of the upcoming Tropical Americas land, opening in 2027.
