Savi’s Workshop Adds New Hilts, Cracked Kyber Crystals, and Effects

How many lightsabers are too many? Savi’s Workshop is giving Star Wars fans a chance to find out. Disney just announced an updated Protection and Defense hilt theme, cracked Kyber crystals, and new effects coming to the workshop. We’ve come a long way from the lightsabers I had as a kid.

They were sticks. Or baseball bats.

The updates will be available at Savi’s Workshop at Hollywood Studios and Disneyland.

The new Protection and Defense parts feature white finishes, gold detailing, and ancient Jedi symbols. Disney says the design draws on the optimism and grandeur of the High Republic, when the Jedi Order represented peace and hope across the galaxy.

The Protection and Defense line already leans into the history of the Jedi, but the white-and-gold combination brings a different look. Less scavenged scrap. More “formal” Jedi.

These new offerings follow the Reclaimed and Reforged update we covered in 2025. That rollout was all about lightsaber remnants recovered from ancient battles and abandoned scrap. The updated Protection and Defense theme is from a more polished chapter of Jedi history.

More ways to make lightsaber noises

In addition to the more polished hilts, Disney says every lightsaber chassis and blade, regardless of the chosen theme, has been enhanced with thermal cutting, spinning, and deflection effects. They also have improved audio quality and smoother blade activation.

The announcement doesn’t explain exactly how each effect works.

“Cracked” Kyber crystals are also coming, allowing users to trigger a color change with a flick of the wrist. That switch shows the internal struggle between the light and dark sides of the Force.

That’s like the internal struggle Star Wars fans will experience when deciding if cracked Kyber crystals and sound effects are worth another Savi’s visit.

It’s not that big a struggle.
