Swings Over Del Mar Begins Testing at Universal Kids Resort
Swings Over Del Mar, the lone ride in Puss in Boots Del Mar, has begun testing at Universal Kids Resort. The Zamperla Flying Carousel has always been one of the park’s biggest visual draws, but seeing it in motion takes it to another level. Its spinning canopy adds a lot of energy to the park, even without riders.
Several of the swings are wrapped in orange plastic, allowing crews to place weighted objects in the seats to simulate real riders.

The ride, a wave swinger, is a theme park classic. Guests are lifted into the air as it begins to rotate, and as the canopy tilts, the swings climb and dip while circling the center. It’s a simple formula, but there’s a reason parks keep coming back to it. These things are a blast.
In fact, one is on the way to Disney Adventure World in Paris. Wilderness Explorers Sky Swings, themed to Up, is also manufactured by Zamperla.

Watching it test, my immediate thought was, “this thing moves.” Swings Over Del Mar tops out at 11 rpm, and with its strong sensation of flying, it’s not going to be for everyone. That explains why it carries the tallest height requirement in the park at 42 inches.
The good news is that the Zamperla includes both single and double seats, so kids who meet that requirement but aren’t quite ready to go solo can ride alongside a parent or friend.
Universal Kids Resort is built for younger guests and targets kids ages 3 to 12. There are already plenty of options for the younger end, including flat spinners, splash pads, and starter roller coasters. Swings Over Del Mar is one of the rides that leans older, giving those kids something with a little more bite.
