Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster’s Guitar Getting a Fresh Coat of Paint

Earlier today, Walt Disney World filed a Notice of Commencement permit to repaint the larger-than-life guitar that greets guests outside Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. The permit describes the work as “Rock n Roller Coaster Guitar Repaint” and calls for Harrison Contracting to “sand, apply one coat of primer, and two coats HP finish.” HP could stand for “high performance,” an abbreviation used by Benjamin Moore and other paint manufacturers. The 40-foot Fender Stratocaster was last refreshed in late 2021.

Disney opting to maintain the guitar should be a sign that it will survive the attraction’s upcoming rebrand. Aerosmith will be vacating the ride’s recording studio in favor of The Muppets (who are themselves being evicted from their Grand Avenue home). If the guitar is staying, it’s safe to reason that no major attraction changes will accompany The Muppets’ arrival.

I’d love to see the ride’s classic Cadillac limo reimagined as a 1951 Studebaker Commander. Nobody would ever believe that car could go 0 to 57 mph in 2.8 seconds, but with Muppet Labs, anything is possible. (For those younger than me, Fozzie drove a ’51 Studebaker in The Muppet Movie.)

Disney hasn’t announced when Aerosmith is leaving Hollywood Studios. Muppet*Vision 3D will close on June 8, 2025.
