Sabrina Carpenter to Guest Star in a Muppet Show Special
According to Variety, Disney has officially greenlit a new Muppet Show special for Disney+ in 2026, the 50th anniversary of the original series. With guest star Sabrina Carpenter, the Muppets will once again raise the curtain at the iconic Muppet Theatre.

If the special proves successful, Disney could use it as a springboard for a full series reboot. And honestly, it needs to succeed. Watch it. Then watch it again. This has to happen.
Dave Goelz has signed on to perform. A Muppets performer for over 50 years, Goelz is responsible for Gonzo and Dr. Bunsen Honeydew. He’ll be joined by several current Muppet performers, including:
- Bill Barretta (Pepe the King Prawn, Bobo the Bear)
- Eric Jacobson (Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Animal, Sam Eagle)
- Peter Linz (Walter)
- David Rudman (Scooter, Janice, Beaker)
- Matt Vogel (Kermit the Frog)
Albertina Rizzo will write and serve as an executive producer. Alex Timbers will direct and executive produce the episode.
Jim Henson’s original Muppet Show aired from 1976 to 1981. During its 5-year run, it welcomed countless A-list stars, from Elton John and Rita Moreno to Carol Burnett and Mark Hamill (who appeared both as himself and as Luke Skywalker).
The series was a favorite among both fans and performers. Guest spots were so sought after that even big stars sometimes got turned away. A reboot could easily inspire that same kind of love.
