Oriental Land Company to Operate Disney Cruises in Japan

Disney can keep a secret when they want to! This morning, the company shared that they were partnering with Oriental Land Co., Ltd. (OLC) to bring Disney Cruises to Japan. The two companies have been partners for over 40 years. OLC owns and operates the Tokyo Disney Resort.

The addition of a locally based Disney cruise ship will offer fun and relaxation for Japanese Disney fans and visitors from around the world during magical voyages filled with the incredible entertainment, world-class dining and exceptional guest service that set Disney cruises apart. We are so excited to see this new Disney vacation experience come to life!

OLC said they entered into the agreement “based on the potential growth of the cruise market in Japan, the experience the Company has gained in its theme park and hotel operations, and its strong relationship with the Disney Company.”

The ship, a sister of the Disney Wish, will be designed by Disney Imagineering and built at Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. Disney promises modifications “specially designed with Japanese guests in mind.” The unnamed vessel will welcome guests in 2029. It will have 1,250 staterooms and be powered by liquefied natural gas.

Disney is supercharging their cruise line offerings. The Treasure launches later this year and the Adventure is coming to Singapore in 2025.
