Monstropolis Trademark Hints at Monsters, Inc. Land at Hollywood Studios

Disney has filed a new trademark for Monstropolis, the fictional city from Pixar’s Monsters, Inc. The filing covers a wide array of entertainment services, including amusement and theme park operations. This is the strongest indication yet that Monstropolis will be the name of Hollywood Studios’ upcoming Monsters, Inc. land. Set to replace Muppets Courtyard, Monstropolis will also stretch into the adjacent Cast Member parking lot. Plans call for a 100,000-square-foot show building themed to the Monsters, Inc. door factory. The massive structure will be home to a next-generation suspended roller coaster, bringing the movie’s iconic chase scene to life.

Concept art for the land also hints at a new theater show (to replace Muppet*Vision 3D), a reimagined PizzeRizzo, and Harryhausen’s (a replacement for Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano).

The land’s official name may be Monstropolis, but let’s be honest—most guests will just call it Monsters, Inc. Land. Either way, this expansion is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated additions to Hollywood Studios in years. I’m just bummed we had to lose Muppet Labs to make it happen.
