Monsters, Inc. Land to Feature Disney’s First-Ever Suspended Coaster

This weekend, Disney unveiled new details about the rollercoaster coming to Monstropolis at Hollywood Studios. During The Future of World-Building at Disney panel at SXSW, Pete Docter, Pixar’s CCO, and Imagineer Michael Hundgen revealed that the Monsters, Inc. land will feature Disney’s first-ever suspended coaster. While the ride type isn’t new, this one will include a unique loading system. Guests will be lifted straight up after boarding, then launched out of the Laugh Floor. Or is it the Scare Floor?

Disney shared an animation of what the ride’s load room will look like.

Anyone who’s seen the original Monsters, Inc. probably had the same idea watching the film’s iconic door warehouse scene: “That would make a great rollercoaster.” Imagineers agreed. “Imagineers have been itching to turn that moment into an attraction ever since we saw it for the first time,” Hundgen said.

Disney didn’t share any more information about the Monsters, Inc. coaster. Losing Muppet*Vision 3D is still going to be brutal, but today’s news makes it a tiny bit better.
