Mermaid the Manatee Arrives at EPCOT
The Seas with Nemo & Friends recently welcomed Mermaid, its newest manatee resident. Rescued from the Homosassa River near Tampa in February, she received critical care before arriving at EPCOT. Disney’s animal teams, collaborating with the Manatee Rescue & Rehabilitation Partnership, are helping her regain strength and weight. Mermaid weighs 525 pounds.
Mermaid is one of the first sea cows to be treated at The Seas since the aquarium refocused its manatee efforts last month. The new program is focused on short-term care, especially for younger patients. While the petite Mermaid will be a big draw for guests, she won’t call EPCOT home for long. The goal is to return Sea Base’s manatees to the wild.
