Meet the Band From Tiana’s Bayou Adventure

Disney has revealed the names of the Zydeco band members coming to Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. These six critters are called into action to back up Louis at Tiana’s big party. You’ll first hear them playing Gonna Take You There from The Princess and the Frog. They’ll also perform original songs composed for the ride by PJ Morton, Terence Blanchard, and Disney Imagineers.

Zydeco is a fusion of French and Caribbean music performed on guitar, washboard, and accordion. It’s popular in southern Louisiana.

In the bayou, Princess Tiana is getting ready to throw a big party, but there’s been a bit of a mix-up between Prince Naveen and Louis. Uh oh — the princess suddenly finds herself in need of a band. We previously shared that all-new Disney characters were being created for this attraction and that’s where the critters come in. Even with the richest roux for your gumbo and the most delicious beignets, a true Mardi Gras celebration isn’t complete without music. We’ll follow Tiana and Louis into the bayou in a last-minute search for this essential missing ingredient for her party — musical critters!

Let’s meet Tiana’s Zydeco band!

Byhalia the Beaver is on drums. She’s the heartbeat of the group and also helps make many of the makeshift instruments played in the band.

Gritty the Rabbit plays the washboard (or the license plate). I’m trying to figure out the significance of the numbers on the plate, but I’m coming up empty. Does May 8, 1972, mean anything to anyone?

Beau the Opossum plays a gourd bass, sometimes with her tail. I dig her already.

Rufus the Turtle plays the harmonica. He’s also highly sarcastic, a trait I appreciate immensely.

Apollo the Raccoon is on squeezebox. His high energy pairs perfectly with the laid-back Rufus, his best friend in the group.

Timoléon the Otter is on fiddle. He’s the old guy in the group and enjoys telling stories of his time in the bayou.

Imagineer Laura West collaborated with Walt Disney Animation Studios to bring these band members to life. Below you’ll find out how she went about doing that.
