Imagineering Files Fire Systems Permit for Carousel of Progress

Walt Disney Imagineering has filed a Notice of Commencement permit for work at 1205 Monorail Way, the address for Magic Kingdom’s Carousel of Progress. Grunau Fire Protection has been contracted to “install FA/FP systems.”

FA and FP stand for fire alarm and fire protection, respectively. Fire alarm work typically includes smoke/heat detectors and monitoring, while fire protection is all about the sprinklers.

We wouldn’t normally cover a fire systems permit, but Imagineers being attached makes it newsworthy. Last summer, Disney announced that Carousel of Progress would receive a Walt Disney Audio-Animatronic, with Walt greeting guests in a new introductory scene. Disney is planning additional updates, though they’re not sharing any specifics.

The permit suggests that the attraction’s safety systems need to be brought up to date before creative work can begin. Carousel of Progress is an older building, and fire codes have evolved considerably since it opened. Even modest changes can trigger mandatory upgrades.

Disney hasn’t shared a timeline for this project, but today’s filing hints that Imagineers could soon begin work on the iconic attraction.
