Florida Investigators Confirm Stardust Racers Operated as Intended in Fatal Incident
Florida state investigators have released their preliminary findings into the Stardust Racers incident, where Kevin Rodriguez Zavala lost consciousness and later died. Their report echoes what Universal Orlando Resort President and COO Karen Irwin told Team Members on Sunday: the Epic Universe roller coaster operated as intended. Below is a statement from the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services:
“The department’s current findings align with those shared by Universal after monitoring the same tests and reviewing the same information. The investigation is ongoing, and additional information will be released as it becomes available.”
Zavala’s family has retained Ben Crump, a prominent civil rights and personal injury attorney. In a statement, Crump’s office said they are seeking “full transparency, including the release of maintenance logs, inspection records, ride data, and video footage, to understand the circumstances surrounding Kevin’s death.”
The investigation remains ongoing, with state officials expected to release additional findings as more information becomes available. With the Zavala family retaining attorney Ben Crump, Epic Universe and its new coaster will continue to face scrutiny.
