EPCOT's Frozen Ever After to Receive Next-Generation Animatronics

Theme park photographers are celebrating this morning: EPCOT’s Frozen Ever After is saying goodbye to its trippy rear-projected Audio-Animatronics. The figures were considered cutting-edge when the ride opened in 2016, but newer technology has since raised the bar. Soon, the ride will welcome the next generation of animatronics, complete with facial movement. No rear projection mapping required. Here’s the announcement from Disney:

“In a full circle moment of innovation, the Anna, Elsa, and Kristoff Audio-Animatronics figures will soon receive new updates after ten years of delighting fans in Frozen Ever After. Taking inspiration from the advancements seen in figures at World of Frozen in Hong Kong Disneyland, the Frozen Ever After figures will face the future of Audio-Animatronics (see what I did there?).”

Frozen Ever After’s animatronics aren’t without their charm (especially if you aren’t snapping photos). Their movements impress me every time we ride. But soon, EPCOT guests will get to experience the same next-generation Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, Sven, and Olaf that have been wowing visitors at Hong Kong Disneyland.

Frozen Ever After will close in early 2026 as Imagineers upgrade the ride’s animatronics.
