Disneyland’s 70th Anniversary Brings Walt Disney Exhibits to Main Street
Walt Disney will play a big role in Disneyland’s 70th anniversary celebrations. In addition to being immortalized as an Audio-Animatronic, Disneyland will pay tribute to its founder with a gallery experience, an animatronics exhibit, and a display featuring items on loan from the Walt Disney Family Museum.
The Opera House on Main Street, U.S.A. will host this greatness. Upon entering, guests will find a gallery filled with images, art, and artifacts “that show Disneyland before, during, and after Walt’s dream became a reality.” Walt Disney Imagineering and the Walt Disney Archives curated the items, many of which have never been seen by the public.
Next, guests will encounter the Audio-Animatronics exhibit. It’s an appropriate location; the Opera House has been home to Abraham Lincoln’s animatronic for decades. According to Disney, guests will “learn about Walt’s inspiration and see firsthand the inner workings of this technology, and how far Audio-Animatronics figures have advanced through the years.”
Finally, Disneyland collaborated with the Walt Disney Family Museum to bring 30 artifacts to the park. Guests can take in several items from Walt’s private apartment on Main Street, U.S.A., including a rocking chair, lamp, and table. The museum also provided Walt’s 1955 Emmy (for ‘Walt Disney’s Disneyland’ TV show), his Presidential Medal of Freedom, and the Walt Disney Commemorative Medal that was presented to Lillian Disney by President Nixon after Walt’s passing.
