Disney World Not Accepting Hotel Reservations Due to Hurricane Milton
Tropical Storm Milton is expected to intensify into a major hurricane as it advances through the Gulf of Mexico, targeting Florida’s west coast. The current projected path suggests the storm will pass directly over Orlando. Anticipating a Category 3 hurricane, Disney World has suspended hotel reservations for two nights next week.
Update: As of Monday morning, Hurricane Milton has strengthened to a Category 4 and is projected to reach Category 5 intensity before making landfall.
Guests with existing reservations have no reason to worry. Although Disney parks will likely close at some point next week, the hotels will remain open. Disney is halting new bookings to prioritize the safety of both guests with existing reservations and Cast Members. The additional room availability will also be crucial, as many guests will face flight cancellations and need a place to stay until MCO and other airports reopen. Additionally, many Cast Members stay on-site during storms for their safety. Interestingly, Disney dining reservations are still available for the middle of next week.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has already declared a state of emergency for 35 counties, including those in central Florida. The storm is expected to make landfall midday Wednesday but Central Florida will experience severe weather well before then.
Disney World parks last closed for storms in 2022, when they went dark from September 28 to 29 for Hurricane Ian and November 9 and the first half of November 10 for Hurricane Nicole. It’s almost certain that Central Florida’s theme parks will close next week, as well.
While we don’t recommend visiting during hurricanes, we love visiting the parks during much less intense rain showers.
