Disney Clarifies Bob Iger’s Avatar Land Statement

Earlier this week, Bob Iger caused a social media frenzy when he said that an Avatar land was coming to Disneyland. “We have one Avatar-based land, Pandora, in Florida. We’re going to put a second one in California,” he said. Today, a Disney press release seems to rein in that statement:

Iger referenced the excitement about plans to develop an Avatar experience at Disneyland in California and acknowledged the prospect of other properties where the franchise might also be successful, noting the popularity of Pandora – The World of Avatar at Walt Disney World in Florida. Iger said that if you “build it right, build it with excellence,” guests will come.

Disney Press Release

Back in 2023, Disney announced that an “Avatar experience” was coming to Disneyland. Iger’s statement at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media, and Telecom Conference made everyone think the scope of that project had grown. In fact, many on social media were convinced that a clone of Animal Kingdom’s Pandora was already in the works.

Could the floating mountains be coming to an Avatar land in California?

It’s possible Iger misspoke and that California won’t get a full-fledged Avatar land, but I’m not sure that’s the case. He specifically referenced Pandora when discussing what was coming to the Disneyland Resort. Perhaps we’ll get the final word on the Avatar project at this year’s D23 Fan Event.
