Disney Begins Repainting Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Limo for Muppets Retheme
Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith closed for good Sunday night, and crews wasted no time beginning the attraction’s transformation into a Muppets-themed ride. Aerosmith branding quickly disappeared from the main marquee and the larger-than-life guitar outside the building. Painters also got to work on the limo hanging upside down along Sunset Boulevard.

We were a bit surprised by that last part. We assumed Imagineers would remove the limo and send it off to a body shop for repainting. Instead, thanks to Tyler’s beautiful photos, we’re watching it transform into Dr. Teeth’s new wheels in real time.
The process likely began with crews using a grease remover to strip away years of dirt and grime from Aerosmith’s stretch ride. You know, the stuff that doesn’t play well with fresh paint. From there, they would have sanded the surface to give the new paint something to adhere to.

After that, painters used masking tape to lay out a series of psychedelic, 1960s-inspired swirls. Some people have called them flames, and while a few sections vaguely resemble that old muscle-car staple, the concept art makes it clear that’s not what Imagineers had in mind. Dr. Teeth isn’t a hot rodder.

Tyler’s photos show some pretty rough masking in places, but that’s not a concern, according to Aahs n Oohs. The red paint currently covering the limo is just the base layer. Final details, including stars and music notes, will likely be airbrushed on later. That paint will cover any imperfections we’re seeing now.
In addition to the work on the car, crews have also installed scrims on the show building, partially obscuring the massive guitar prop. Aerosmith’s poster has also been removed, its former space now covered.

And now, let’s look at more of Tyler’s fantastic shots.
