Brian Henson Confirms Muppet*Vision 3D Is Coming to VR

Muppet*Vision 3D will live on – in VR headsets. The news comes from The Daily Dot’s Jamie Jirak, who attended a recent Puppet Up! performance in Los Angeles. After the show, Brian Henson, founder of the troupe and son of Jim Henson, took audience questions and confirmed what many fans had been hoping to hear.

The Jim Henson Company chairman shared that the iconic Hollywood Studios 3D production will be available on VR platforms, including Apple Vision Pro. While we’ve known for months that Disney documented the attraction before it closed, this marks the first confirmation of its virtual reality future.

Henson added that Disney did a solid job preserving the experience. Users will even be able to choose their seat inside the theater (all 584 of them), offering every possible vantage point to enjoy one of Jim Henson’s crowning achievements.

There’s no word yet on whether the theater’s pre-show lobby will be included. But that space was as much a part of Muppet*Vision 3D as the film itself. If the VR version truly captures the full experience, we might just find ourselves looking up at a net full of Jell-O once again.

A net full of Jell-O
A net full of Jell-O. Say it out loud for it to make sense.

The Muppets are red-hot right now, thanks to The Muppet Show revival. So this makes sense, even if many of us won’t be able to consume it. VR may still be a niche space, but it’s a fitting one for preserving Muppet*Vision 3D. If any attraction translates well to virtual reality, it’s this one. Maybe I’ll be buying a headset.

Sure, we’d all love to see Muppet Labs pop up next door to Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster instead. But preserving Muppet*Vision 3D in any format is a win.
