BDX Droids Coming to Walt Disney World, Tokyo, and Paris

The BDX droids are heading to Walt Disney World! Previously exclusive to Disneyland, these cutting-edge Imagineering creations will be walking around Galaxy’s Edge in Hollywood Studios sometime this year. The Star Wars droids will also travel to Tokyo Disneyland and Disneyland Paris. The announcement was made yesterday during The Future of World-Building at Disney panel at SXSW.

BDX droids debuted in Disneyland’s Galaxy’s Edge last April. Guests were immediately taken with the autonomous characters. Yes, they’re incredibly cute, but their ability to freely roam is unlike anything we’ve seen in the parks before. Imagineer Leslie Evans explains:

“They learn, they experiment, they teach each other, and they figure out how to navigate different types of terrain. When we’re training in simulation, we’re not just teaching them to balance, we’re teaching them how to learn to walk as characters and imitate those core animations that really give them their personality.”

The droids first trained as digital avatars in a virtual environment, using a process known as “reinforcement learning.” This method allowed them to experiment freely, learning through trial and error.

The droids made an impression on Jon Favreau. The director cast them in The Mandalorian and Grogu movie that debuts in May 2026.

Look for the BDX droids (and the resulting crowds) in Walt Disney World, Tokyo Disneyland, and Disneyland Paris later this year.
