Aerosmith Preshow Closes as Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Begins Muppets Transformation

We’ve officially seen the last of Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, and the rest of Aerosmith at Hollywood Studios. Earlier today, Disney closed the band’s preshow studio scene in the Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster queue. Cast Members we spoke with say the change is permanent and clears the way for Imagineers to begin transforming the attraction into a full-fledged Muppets gig.

The studio’s windows are now covered with G-Force Records logos. Soon, Electric Mayhem — plus Scooter and the Penguins — will take over the recording space. Earlier this summer, Disney released concept art showing the new tenants. Unlike the Aerosmith setup, the studio will be reversed for The Muppets, meaning guests in the queue will view it from the control room rather than the performance side.

The phased closure of Aerosmith’s Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster caught fans off guard. Disney had previously announced the attraction wouldn’t close until 2026. Yes, we’re talking about the preshow, but it was the only place guests could actually see the band.

That said, a phased approach should shorten the coaster’s overall downtime once Imagineers begin work on the ride itself. I don’t mind the strategy, but a little advance notice would’ve gone a long way for diehard fans. During our Disney World trip last month, my son even ditched us to squeeze in one last ride.
