We Met the Mandalorian and Grogu in Hollywood Studios

We recently visited Hollywood Studios on May the 4th, aka Star Wars Day. I’ll write more about that visit another time, but here’s a spoiler: I’ve loved Star Wars for 48 years, but that love was seriously tested by endless merchandise lines, stifling heat, and massive crowds. Even the mobile return line for Blue Milk was dozens of people long.

Still, our time in Disney World’s Galaxy’s Edge wasn’t a total bust.

As we were leaving Star Wars land to catch one final Muppet*Vision 3D show, we noticed a large crowd in a corner of Batuu. Normally, I go in the opposite direction when I see big groups of people, but I had a feeling about this gathering. Behind the wall of people, we found the Mandalorian and Grogu.

The crowd was anxious to meet the bounty hunter and his Jedi friend. Even though a Cast Member was nearby, Mando was clearly in charge. He summoned people forward for pictures. There was no official photographer, but the CM was happy to take pics with our phones.

Once a group was summoned, their place in “line” was quickly filled. It wasn’t long before we made it to the front, just as the CM announced that Mando was needed off-planet. I nudged my wife forward, hoping she’d be picked next.

But he skipped her.

Then the CM said, “Mando and Grogu are leaving in about one minute, but don’t worry, he’ll be back on Batuu later today.” Unfortunately, we wouldn’t be.

And then Mando redeemed himself. He came back to my wife, waving her forward. Mando said something I can’t quite remember. Grogu said some stuff I didn’t understand. And we got our pics.

Then they were gone. And so were we.

If meeting the Mandalorian and Grogu is a must-do, keep your eyes peeled as soon as you enter Galaxy’s Edge. The two roam Batuu several times a day, always followed by a crowd of fans.
