Walt Disney Imagineering Teases S.E.A. Mystery Reveal for D23

Walt Disney Imagineering just teased a big reveal for this weekend’s D23 Fan Expo in Anaheim. In an Instagram post, Bonnie Booker, a Society of Explorers & Adventurers (S.E.A.) archivist, shared that a crate has arrived at Imagineering headquarters. Neither the Imagineers nor anyone at S.E.A. knows what’s inside, only that it came from the Jungle Navigation Company.

Greetings, Explorers!

For the unacquainted, I’m Bonnie Booker, an archivist for an intrepid organization called the Society of Explorers & Adventurers (a mouthful, I know!). We’re an institution dedicated to identifying, conserving, and curating the world’s mysteries and, in collaboration with Walt Disney Imagineering, we’re excited to bring one of those mysteries to D23.

The Jungle Navigation Company just delivered the crate with our mystery to Imagineering headquarters. What’s inside? That’s the exciting part: nobody knows! We’ll open it at D23 and discover something new together. Isn’t that wonderful?

So what is the Society of Explorers & Adventurers? In simplest terms, the S.E.A. is a fictional organization woven into Disney attractions and parks around the world. Its mission is to “reveal truths, right wrongs, and live to tell the tale.” Its modern-day motto is “wonder, explore, and discover.” Members include:

  • Barnabas T. Bullion of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad fame
  • Dr. Albert Falls (Jungle Cruise)
  • Lord Henry Mystic (Hong Kong Disneyland’s Mystic Manor)
  • Captain Mary Oceaneer (Disney Cruise Line’s Oceaneer Club)
  • Jock Lindsey (Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar)

We were treated to a S.E.A. party during Jollywood Nights last November, where we got to meet Indiana Jones. He’s not a member, but he meets all the criteria. Maybe the Society will let him in someday.

Back to the crate. We shouldn’t have to wait long to learn about its contents. Walt Disney Imagineering is presenting “An Inside Look at the Society of Explorers & Adventurers” at D23 tomorrow. For those not in Anaheim, be sure to follow WDI on Instagram, where all the secrets will be revealed.
