Vekoma Confirms It Built Big Thunder Mountain’s New Track and Trains

Vekoma has confirmed what many of us suspected: The company is responsible for the new track – and wonderfully smooth ride – on Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. Vekoma made it official in an Instagram post this afternoon:

“Vekoma is proud to have partnered with Disney on the refurbishment of the iconic Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Walt Disney World. With a new track and trains, the attraction is ready to deliver even smoother adventures while preserving the beloved experience guests know and love. The enhancements also increase accessibility, with a reduced rider height requirement of just 38 inches, allowing even more young adventurers and their families to climb aboard.

“By revitalizing rather than replacing this legendary ride, its legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.

“Because true legends aren’t replaced, they evolve.”

Thanks to Aahs n Oohs for the heads-up.

Vekoma delivered in a big way. I rode the refurbished coaster in June and immediately fell in love with the update. It’s still the wildest ride in the wilderness, but no longer because of decades of wear and tear. Now, the thrills come entirely from the track’s twists, turns, and dips.

Arrow Development manufactured the original Big Thunder Mountain Railroad coaster.
