Universal Nights at Epic Universe: I Missed the Fireworks but Still Had a Blast

Universal Nights at Epic Universe: I Missed the Fireworks but Still Had a Blast

On October 3, 2026, Epic Universe hosted its first-ever Universal Nights, a limited-capacity, separately ticketed after-hours event, and I was there for it all. The event officially runs from 9 p.m. to midnight, but your ticket gets you into the park as early as 7 p.m. That early window lets you catch the nighttime show, Universal Celestial Goodnight, before the party starts. Keep that detail in mind, because it comes back to bite me!

What’s the one thing I wish I had known?

On recent nights, Epic Universe closes at 8 PM, and the nighttime show starts at 8:30. On Universal Nights, the show started at 8 PM sharp. Write it on your hand, set an alarm, or tattoo it on a friend, because I assumed the usual schedule and paid for it. Info kiosks with posted times, including the one for Celestial Goodnight, are found throughout Celestial Park. I should have checked one.

How was getting in?

I entered through the Helios Grand Hotel entrance, where exactly one Team Member was putting wristbands on every Universal Nights guest. I was maybe 30 to 40 people back, and it still took almost 20 minutes to reach the park. That feels like a first-night logistics problem Universal will fix quickly, but if you use the Helios entrance, build in some cushion. My understanding is that entering at the front of the park was no trouble at all, so this is just a Helios Grand entry concern.

Did I really miss Celestial Goodnight?

Dark Universe portal at Epic Universe

Yes, and in spectacular fashion. Confident I had until 8:30, I walked straight into Darkmoor and rode Monsters Unchained, my favorite ride in the park, with just a 15-minute wait. For the first time I can remember, there was no single rider line, and I hope that’s an event quirk rather than a permanent change.

After soaking in some moody nighttime Darkmoor ambiance, I spotted Curse of the Werewolf with single rider open against a 30-minute standby. Do not be fooled by the single rider line for this ride! Werewolf loads slowly, so its single rider queue crawls along. However, while waiting, I did spot the watching eyes of Maleva – a touch I’ve never noticed in the light of day!

Maleva's intense stare

After about 25 minutes, I was nearly at the platform when fireworks started bursting behind me, and I knew I had made a terrible mistake. Celestial Goodnight, with the full fireworks finale, went on without me.

The silver lining is a good one, though. I got a nighttime ride on Curse of the Werewolf with fireworks exploding overhead, and the weight in my ride vehicle was distributed just right, so we spun freely the whole way. It was honestly amazing – even mystical. I also snapped a few photos of the finale through the trees and coaster track on my way out.

What’s Celestial Park like after dark?

Constellation Carousel

Once I returned to Celestial Park, Team Members were checking wristbands at every ride and portal, so wait times were dropping quickly. I took a nighttime spin on Constellation Carousel, which was magical, especially on a nighttime ride. Then I rode the yellow side of Stardust Racers (my favorite side), and the nighttime soundtrack is absolutely incredible. Universal, I am begging you: please put the full Celestial Park soundtrack on streaming.

Is it really all walk-ons?

Pretty much, and that’s the biggest benefit of this event! By this point, nearly every posted wait in the park was 10 minutes or less. At the Wizarding World’s Ministry of Magic, I walked right onto Battle at the Ministry. The longest wait was actually at the Floo Network, where Team Members paused each group so everyone got the full smoke effect. Skipping the hour-and-a-half (or longer) line felt like genuine magic, and Wizarding Paris looks gorgeous in its nighttime mode.

Over in How to Train Your Dragon: Isle of Berk, Hiccup’s Wing Gliders had a 10-minute wait and revealed a secret I never knew existed. The Gronckle eggs at the second launch have a lighting package that makes them glow, build up, and finally burst. The blast that launches you out of the canyon comes with lighting effects you simply cannot see in the Florida sun. It’s easily one of the best nighttime upgrades in the park.

Super Nintendo World looks nearly identical at night thanks to its bright lighting, but the lines do not. I used single rider on Mine-Cart Madness and was on in about 10 minutes, while standby was at 25 minutes. A normal day there runs closer to three hours.

Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge had no line at all, so I rode a kart solo. It was a little less fun than racing against strangers but still a fantastic ride. My one regret is skipping Yoshi’s Adventure, which would have offered amazing nighttime views of the land. Next time.

What about the free food?

Your ticket includes three perks, and they’re unlimited all night. The Crispy Kimchi Bao is at the snack stand just left of the Isle of Berk portal. It was really good! I ate mine while strolling into Berk.

Berry-flavored Celestial Popcorn is at the kiosk across from the Atlantic entrance, between the Moonship Chocolates & Celestial Sweets shop and Super Nintendo World. I only found it at the very end of the night. It made a great sweet snack as I headed to my car!

Free Coca-Cola Freestyle refills come in a provided cup at any Freestyle location, which matters because Florida nights are basically a warm, damp hug. Stay hydrated!

Who did I meet?

Every regular meet-and-greet was available during Universal Nights. The lines were also short. The characters seem to appear every hour, either on the hour or half hour. But check the posted times or ask a Team Member to be sure.

  • Super Nintendo World
Mario, Luigi, Toad, and Princess Peach.
  • Celestial Park
Captain Cacao, to the left of Oak & Star Tavern.
  • Darkmoor
The Bride of Frankenstein and Victoria’s Monster.
  • Isle of Berk
Toothless. I missed him this time, sadly.
Captain Cacao and Bioscotto

I arrived a little early for the Captain Cacao meet-and-greet, which left me time to rush into Darkmoor for another ride on Monsters Unchained. I was wearing my Captain Cacao shirt, and he was very excited about it, as was I!

The wands in the Wizarding World and the Power-Up Bands in Super Nintendo World also benefit from the empty park, since you can try every spell spot and key challenge without waiting behind a crowd.

What do I hope changes?

I didn’t spot any meet-and-greets exclusive to the event. I was hoping a Celestial like Maya of the Skies would join Captain Cacao for the night. I also didn’t see any roaming characters, such as Ygor, the Invisible Man, or the wandering violinist in Darkmoor, the students in the Ministry of Magic, or the Vikings of Berk. I was apparently just unlucky as others have said they were out and about at various times. Hopefully they’re out more regularly in future events! With a first event, there’s plenty of room to experiment.

I was also impressed that nearly every restaurant, shop, bar, and stand was open. I suspect Universal was gathering data on what guests actually use, so it wouldn’t surprise me if some locations close at future events.

Is it worth the price?

Tickets start at $179.99 per person plus tax. Annual Passholders can save 10%. That’s more expensive than some full-day tickets, but with nearly every ride being a walk-on for five hours, Universal Nights earns its price on that alone. Add the free snacks and unlimited Freestyle refills, and it’s an outstanding value. Universal has since added more dates, so you still have a shot at booking if you’re interested.

I had a blast at Universal Nights at Epic Universe. I can’t recommend it enough.

Just remember that Universal Celestial Goodnight starts at 8 PM.
