Universal Kids Resort Wet Utilities Work Begins
Last month, Universal hired Moss Utilities to provide wet utilities work for the Universal Kids Resort project. Wet utilities include the installation of pipes for sewers, storm drains, and water systems. In addition to systems found on a typical construction site, Universal Kids will also include a couple of water attractions, so Moss’ work is a significant step forward in the project.
I visited the site last week and saw a Moss trailer but no other evidence of their work. Today was a different story. The site now includes PVC pipe, reinforced concrete pipe, and tons of gravel. I also saw a wheel loader transporting a sewer manhole base with pre-installed sewer inlets to the other side of the site. I know someone who knows construction, thankfully. Otherwise, I would have called it a concrete tube.
I walked down the west side of the property to watch a crew as they dug a trench and laid PVC pipe on the job site’s perimeter. I never realized how aromatic that dug-up clay could be. It was ripe. No detail is too small to make it into my reports!

Fields West
Universal Kids Resort is part of the massive Fields Development project. Across the tollway, construction has begun on Fields West, a “55-acre urban village with endless possibilities.” The area will include 350,000 square feet of retail, restaurant, and entertainment space; 325,000 square feet of office space; 1,200 urban living residences; and 375 hotel rooms. Planned hotels include the Ritz Carlton and Autograph Collection by Marriott.
Some residents are worried about the increased traffic Universal Kids Resort will bring. That traffic will be negligible compared to the car volume created by the monster development going in across the road. We moved to the area 20 years ago. Frisco was one of the country’s fastest-growing cities even back then. The progress being made today makes that initial growth seem quaint.
