Test Track Closing June 17 for Reimagining

Fans of fast cars should head to EPCOT sooner rather than later. Test Track is closing on June 17 for a reimagining. Disney released concept art of the ride’s exterior earlier today.

The artwork shows a sleek portico replacing the existing canopy. Imagineers are restoring the building to its World of Motion days. I never understood why they wanted to hide the facade behind all that steel.

Disney originally announced Test Track’s reimagining at last year’s D23 Destination.

“Imagineers along with teams from Chevrolet are reaching back into history for inspiration – from the original World of Motion – and bringing that spirit of optimism to the next iteration of the Test Track attraction.”

They also shared concept art for the ride’s interior. The ride vehicles have an EV vibe.

Personally, I wouldn’t mind seeing some humor reinjected into Test Track. The original ride subjected riders to automobile safety tests, just like those usually reserved for crash test dummies. Version 2.0 debuted in 2012 with a much more scientific feel. Riders designed their own vehicles before “testing” them on the track. It was a big swing by Imagineers and Chevrolet, but it failed to live up to the original ride in many ways.

Test Track is closing on June 17, 2024. No reopening date has been announced.
