Polynesian Tower to Open in December 2024
Disney just announced that the new Polynesian Tower is set to open in December of this year. Officially called the Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows (Disney loves their names), the new DVC offering will offer some pretty great views of the Seven Seas Lagoon and Magic Kingdom. In addition to the opening date, Disney also released concept art of the Tower.
Many fans have been critical of the Polynesian Tower, which is currently under construction. They complain that it doesn’t fit in with the Polynesian’s aesthetic. However, the resort’s original plans included a prominent tower. The tower will “complete the vision created by Disney Imagineers decades ago while embracing the rich culture from the Polynesian Islands.”
I’d love to see those original concepts.
I personally dig the look. No, it’s not OG Walt Disney World, but that’s cool with me. I trust the Imagineers to create something beautiful that pays tribute to the Polynesian culture. From the concept art and our construction photos, it looks like they’ve succeeded:
“Walt Disney Imagineering collaborated with over a dozen artists from around the world to create unique artworks that will be displayed throughout the resort. From preserved moss walls to sculptures made from recycled fishing nets, each piece will be inspired by the spirit of conservation and embody the rich cultures of Polynesia.”
The current Polynesian’s DVC accommodations are limited to deluxe studios and bungalows. The Tower will fill in the gaps by providing duo studios, one-bedroom villas, two-bedroom villas, and two-bedroom penthouse villas. Many rooms in the 10-story hotel should have stunning views, either of Magic Kingdom or the Monorail. Yes, Monorail views are stunning.
When can you book?
There’s no word on when DVC owners can make point-based reservations, but they can be the first to book a rental stay:
- June 4: DVC Members can book rental reservations by calling Member Services at (800) 800-9800.
- June 5: Disney World Annual Passholders can book rental reservations by calling (407) 934-7639.
- June 6: All guests can make reservations online or by contacting (407) 934-7639.
Polynesian Tower Construction Photos
We recently stayed in a Poly studio, so I took the opportunity to take some photos of the new Tower. It’s going to be a beautiful addition to the Seven Seas Lagoon skyline. Your mileage may vary.
These last two shots were taken from the Monorail. Guests who love Monorail views are going to love these rooms.
