Pineapple Paradise Closes for Apparent Flooring Upgrade at Universal Kids Resort

Pineapple Paradise is temporarily closed at Universal Kids Resort. It looks like SpongeBob’s home will be getting the same flooring upgrade that just arrived in Shrek’s Swamp.

Crews began preparing the splash pad’s surface today, removing drain covers and scuffing the concrete. Universal hasn’t confirmed the work, but we suspect they’re installing the same cushioned Life Floor panels now in use at Shrek’s Swamp Splash & Smash.

That play area reopened today after crews covered its concrete with flooring much more appropriate for a swamp. Life Floor is designed for aquatic play areas, providing cushioning and slip resistance. Even better, the product has been deemed a Certified Autism Resource by the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES). Early reviews from Shrek’s Swamp have been overwhelmingly positive.

SpongeBob’s Pineapple Paradise is the next logical spot to upgrade. While Bikini Bottom’s splash pad doesn’t douse kids with a giant bucket of water, it does let them play in SpongeBob’s pineapple home and with other smaller water features. A cushioned, slip-resistant surface would be a welcome improvement over concrete.

When we wrote about Shrek’s new flooring, we wondered whether Universal would make similar changes at its other splash pads. It didn’t take long for crews to move on to the next one. Just a few weeks ago, Team Members told me significant changes were coming to the park. They weren’t kidding.

We wouldn’t be surprised to see the Minions’ splash pads get the same treatment soon.

Universal hasn’t shared a reopening date for Pineapple Paradise, but based on the downtime at Shrek’s Swamp, it could reopen in a week or two. We’ll update this article with photos as work progresses.
