Permits Hint at Work Starting in Monsters, Inc. Glob Theater in Hollywood Studios
Walt Disney Imagineering has filed two Notice of Commencement permits for the former home of Muppet*Vision 3D in Hollywood Studios. The space is being reimagined as The Glob Theater as part of the area’s transformation into Monstropolis.
As usual, the permits don’t reveal many specifics, but the listed contractors might hint at the work that’s about to begin. The Jon Richards Company, a long-time Disney collaborator, is likely handling the sets, scenery, and props for the Monsters, Inc. show planned for the updated venue.
A second permit lists Solotech, an AV company that specializes in LED walls, projection mapping, surround sound, and lighting systems. According to its website, Solotech uses “innovative technology to create unforgettable multi-sensorial experiences.”
The combination of scenic fabrication and AV integration suggests that the Monsters show will include both practical environments and digital effects. Whatever Imagineering has planned, a theater filled with monsters feels like a fitting next chapter for the former Muppet Labs home.
