Opossums Return to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

Opossums Return to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

Two opossums have moved back into their home at Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. The pair will soon be joined by the rest of the family on that dead tree in the town of Tumbleweed. Here’s how Walt Disney Imagineering announced the news on Instagram:

“Imagineers are happy to welcome some old friends home to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at @waltdisneyworld! Mom and dad opossum are back, with the rest of the family returning soon.”

The opossums were a mainstay on the attraction before it closed for a 16-month refurbishment, but were absent when the wild ride reopened in May. The figures reportedly failed ride-envelope testing, meaning they extended into the space that needs to remain clear around passing trains.

Disney hasn’t said when the rest of the family will return. For now, mom and dad get to enjoy a little peace and quiet. Apart from the speeding trains.
