Marvel Studios Announces The Fantastic Four Cast

Marvel Studios surprised everyone by using a Valentine’s Day card to announce The Fantastic Four cast. The announcement confirms rumors that Pedro Pascal had been cast as Reed Richards / Mr. Fantastic. Joining him are Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm / The Invisible Woman, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm / The Thing, and Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm / The Human Torch.

The retro card implies The Fantastic Four will be a 60s period film. It also shows H.E.R.B.I.E. and a portrait of Ebon Moss-Bachrach before his character is transformed into The Thing.

Disney obtained the rights to the Fantastic Four characters when it purchased 20th Century Fox in 2019. Fox released three underwhelming FF films, the last of which tanked at the box office in 2015. Kevin Feige has high hopes for a reboot, however.

“Fantastic Four is the foundation for everything that came after in the comics. There’s certainly been versions of it, but never inhabiting the storytelling of the MCU. And that’s something that is really exciting for us.”

Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios President

“Versions of it.” What a polite way to phrase that!

Matt Shakman (WandaVision) will direct the film. Josh Friedman, Jeff Kaplan, and Ian Springer are writing the script. The Fantastic Four opens in theaters on July 25, 2025.
