Magic Kingdom Flips Route for Second Starlight Parade
Magic Kingdom’s nighttime operations are changing, and we’re here for it.
Beginning last night, Disney flipped the parade route for the second performance of Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away. Since debuting last summer, every run started in Town Square and wrapped in Frontierland. Now the late parade does the opposite: it kicks off out west and heads toward the train station.
Not every night has two runs. During slower times, the early parade is all you get.
Disney hasn’t said why the switch happened, but crowd flow is the obvious suspect. It makes sense for parade number one to travel north on Main Street. Guests using it as their grand finale can peel off toward the exits before the masses cram the hub for Happily Ever After.
When those fireworks end, the great migration begins. Thousands of people realize sleep is more important than parade reruns. Previously, that meant colliding with Starlight round two if they lingered too long. Now, the second parade is way behind them, staging near Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.
That means more time for shopping, taking photos of the castle, and enjoying one final moment before boarding a bus, boat, or Monorail.
Starlight’s new route is also a bonus for photographers. Most of us love setting up in Town Square and aiming straight up Main Street with Cinderella Castle glowing in the distance. And yes, you can get beautiful shots of the castle behind the floats in the hub. That’s always been possible. But that’s not the shot I’m talking about.
I mean the classic, “looking down Main Street” angle. Long sightline. Lights stretching into forever. The castle anchoring the whole thing. Until now, pulling that off during Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away mostly meant photographing retreating cabooses.
With the second run flipped, the floats will be steaming toward you, framed by an icon. It gives the feeling that you’re about to be run over by Whimsy. That feels like an upgrade.
So no, Disney hasn’t confirmed the reasoning. But if the result is more peaceful exits and better pictures, I have zero complaints about this update.
